Stationary Generators
Advanced Power builds a complete range of generators ideal for continuous use in prime power applications such as mining and tourist resort applications and for standby use in hospitals, commercial and high-rise buildings, computer centres, banks, hotels and many utilities.
This range covers sets from 4kVA to 2500kVA and output ranging from 200-11,000 volts.
Advanced Power only offers equipment which has been proven and can offer mass-produced packages using engines and alternators from Caterpillar, Cummins, Perkins and Stamford which are similar to many sets both worldwide and in Australia which have been given reliable, economical service. We are also able to purpose-build sets using any of the above equipment as well as MTU, Detroit Diesel, Volvo, AvK, Marathon, MeccAlte and other proven equipment manufacturers.
Advanced Power manufactures its own range of micro-processor and PLC-based control systems which can incorporate an automatic mains failure controller and digital meters to monitor amps, volts, frequency, kilowatts and power factor for alternator output. Additional digital meters indicate engine oil pressure, engine water temperature and battery voltage. The company has its own certified laboratory to calibrate these meters.
Advanced Power offers a wealth of experience gathered from many years in the field of Diesel Power Generation. Along with Sydney land marks such as Darling Park, Fort Denison and No.1 Martin Place, Advanced Power has installed standby power systems in many varied applications such as:
- hospitals,
- hotels and
- Prince of Wales Hospital,
- ANA Hotel
- Darling Harbour Novotel
- Sydney Harbour Tunnel
- Newtown Telephone Exchange
- Kingsford Smith Sydney Airport
- Port Kembla Copper Works
- Citibank Tower
Other notable installations include:
- 4 x 2250kVA generators in Governor Phillip Tower
- 5 x 1650kVA generators in Chifley Tower
And several others where synchronised operation with the main supply is required. These include Malabar and Bondi Sewerage Treatment Plants, Callide Power Station and Kenmare Mine.
Mobile Diesel Generating Sets have been built by Advanced Power for the Illawarra County Council, ACTU Electricity Commission and the Tasmanian Hydro Electricity Commission. These were totally enclosed units, mounted on truck chassis and complete with all automatic controls for synchronising with the main supply. Operator safety, a compact, lightweight design and low noise output were major considerations with these units.
For continued Product Support Advanced Power has a Field Service team to carry out its recommended Preventative maintenance programs and respond to emergencies 24 hours a day. Free quotations are available for Preventative Maintenance Programs in the Sydney Metropolitan area.
Offshore Generators – Oil and Gas Industry
Advanced Power recently delivered two 80kW generator sets to Phillips Petroleum to operate continuously as prime power on the unmanned Wellhead Platform in their Bayu Undan Gas Recycle Project in the East Timor Sea.
Due to the surrounding environment these sets had to be manufactured to withstand 172 kilometres per hour winds, heavy salt spray and cyclonic conditions. Accordingly, a special feature of these sets is that to withstand this rugged sea environment almost all ancillary equipment is manufactured from 316L stainless steel including the acoustic enclosures in which the sets are installed. Other special inclusions are gas and flame detection equipment and the Marrioff water mist spray system for fire protection.
A further two sets each rated at 1250kW were delivered in November 2001. These sets provided Emergency and Standby Power for CUQ (Compression, Utilities and Quarters Platform) and DPP (Drilling, Production and Processing Platform).
These orders were obtained against worldwide competition due to the company’s design flexibility and international recognised engineering ability.
Dummy Load Banks
The company designs and builds “dummy” load banks many of which are in use with the Australian Defence Forces in both workshop and field situations. In the workshop, the load bank provides conveniently selectable load and accurate output measurements for generators up to 250kVA under test and have been successful in tendering for an IMW mobile reactive load bank. In the field, the equipment supplies load to generators during periods of light use, to avoid diesel engine deterioration. Load can be added or subtracted in 1kW steps while the generator is connected.
Our resistive and reactive load banks presently range up to 1mW and are complete with suitable controls for manual, remote or automatic operation.
