Solar Block
The worlds first and still the best high cycle life gel VRLA battery suitable for solar and other renewable energy applications. 1200 cycles according to IEC 896T2. 8 to 10 years float lifetime at an ambient temperature of 20C (with 80% residual capacity).
These batteries have proven themselves over decades and thousands of installations throughout the harshest regions of the world and simply have no peer when comparing service life, cycles, resistance to abuse and tolerance to a wide range of environments. Available in 12 and 6 volt cells from 60Ah to 330Ah (C100)
Harness the power of the sun with the Sonnenschein range of dryfit Solar Block batteries. Built around proven gelled electrolyte technology, Solar Block batteries are simple to use, deep cycling and maintenance free over their complete service life.
Maintenance Free and Sealed
Each cell is sealed by a valve preventing penetration by airborne oxygen. Excess pressure (from overcharging) is vented and the valve resets. Gas within the battery is recombined to form water. Therefore no water topping up or filling is needed and no acid spill will occur.
Wide Applications
Dryfit Solar Block batteries are designed for applications in various fields: Solar Power Stations, telecommunications systems, measurement stations, traffic light systems, street lighting, alarm systems, week-end and holiday homes, mobile site offices, caravans, ships and maritime buoys.
Deep Discharge Resistant
Batteries can survive deep discharges and still recover their capacity. Even after 4 weeks left flat the battery can recover to 80% after 48 hours recharging and to 100% after a few cycles.
8 Year Service Life
Designed for 8 year service lifetime at an ambient temperature of 20C (with 80% residual capacity).
Extremely Low Self Discharge
Less than 3% of the rated capacity per month in storage is lost at 20 deg. C. This means batteries can be stored for long periods without recharging.
Structure and Operation
The dryfit Solar Block is made up of grid plates of an antimony-free special alloy and separated using high quality microporous and specially insulated 'DARAK' plastic separators. The individual plates are connected by intercell connectors inside the housing. The plates are installed in easily transportable acid- and shock resistant containers made of monoblock polypropylene
Economical
Excellent performance/price ratio and very low service costs. Up to 6000 cycles according to IEC 896 T2
Cell Containers and Covers
The cell containers and covers are made of monoblock polypropylene. Container covers are thermally welded to the cell containers to form a permanent and airtight bond. The covers of finished batteries are checked for integrity by a high-voltage test.
Storage
Sonnenschein dryfit batteries should only be stored in a fully charged state. After storage batteries should be recharged as follows:
Ambient temperature of 20'C within 18 months
Ambient temperature of 30'C within 12 months
Ambient temperature of 40'C within 6 months
Electrolyte and Cell Valves
Filler plugs are not required. Venting during charging takes place via relief valves that open at a predetermined pressure and close again when the pressure is lowered. Every pressure relief valve is flashback-proof and has been tested by UL. The electrolyte used in the dryfit Solar Block range is a special thixotropic gelled type invented by Sonnenschein over 35 years ago. The gel's properties prevent sedimentation - mechanically any sedimented lead particles are
Handling and Transportation
Sonnenschein dryfit batteries are classified as CLASS 8, UN2800 "Batteries Wet NON-SPILLABLE" For air transportation dryfit batteries are exempt under paragraph 67 of the IMDG Handbook.
Plate Block
As there is no shedding of the active material from the plates due to the gel electrolyte, both plate block types rest on the bottom of the container. The solid electrolyte gel provides an additional mechanical fixing
